Anche la 84esima edizione degli Academy Awards è storia, da pochi minuti sono stati consegnati i premi Oscar e molto è andato secondo copione. L’assoluto trionfatore è ovviamente The Artist, che ha vinto 5 premi, ed è diventato il primo film in bianco e nero a vincere l’Oscar in 18 anni (l’ultimo era stato nel 1994Schindler’s List), il secondo film muto nella storia a vincere (il primo e fino a poco fa unico è Ali che vinse proprio nella prima edizione degli Oscar) e il primo film francese in assoluto. Anche Hugo Cabret ha vinto 5 Oscar, ma tutti nelle categorie tecniche.
